Welcome to Your Happiness Era, a 6-week online course designed for Swifties who want to deepen their understanding of happiness and well-being through the lens of positive psychology and the music of Taylor Swift.

I’m Tricia Fox—singer-songwriter, holder of a master’s degree in Applied Positive Psychology, and a lifelong Swiftie. My masters thesis explores how lyrics impact well-being, and honestly, there’s no better soundtrack for life’s ups and downs than Taylor’s. I created this course for fans who want to explore positive psychology in a way that feels fun, relatable, and—dare I say—enchanted.

What is Positive Psychology?

Positive psychology is the scientific study of what makes life worth living. While we acknowledge life’s challenges (This is why we can't have nice things, darling), focusing only on what’s wrong can weaken the things that help us thrive. Instead, positive psychology examines strengths, virtues, meaning, and the factors that help individuals and communities flourish.

Week 1: Positive Emotion & Engagement (P & E in PERMA)

  • We will define positive emotions - hint: it’s not just “happiness”

  • We identify examples of positive emotions in Taylors songs.

  • We discuss scientifically proven ways to experience more positive emotion with Broaden-And-Build Theory

  • We will define engagement - “Flow”

  • We discuss scientifically proven ways to support “flow” and engagement.

  • We identify examples of engagement in Taylor’s Career

Week 2: Positive Relationships & Meaning (R & M in PERMA)

  • Positive Relationships - The importance of connection (Long live all the magic we made!)

  • We dive into examples from Taylors Career with Swifties, Collaborators, and the messy romantic relationships.

  • Meaning - How it evolves over time

  • We look at Taylor’s evolution in her career and her connection to meaning and causes she believes in.

Week 3: VIA Character Strengths & Strength Spotting

  • Discover your personal strengths and how to use them (You belong with me—to yourself!)

  • Spotting strengths in Taylor’s journey and then ourselves!

Week 4: Grit

  • We will define what grit is (and isn’t)

  • We identifyTaylor’s resilience and grit (She can still make the whole place shimmer) and how it can inspire your own perseverance

  • Tips on how to build grit in your own life

Week 5: Agency, Achievement, Critical Thinking, and the Patriarchy

  • We will discuss agency, achievement, and critical thinking and their role in system of oppression, focused on the patriarchy.

  • We will identify ow taking control of your narrative (Taylor’s Version) boosts well-being

  • We look at the psychology of breaking barriers (No one wanted to play with me as a little kid...)

Week 6: Gratitude & Course Reflection

  • Defining gratitude: A shift from what’s missing to what you have

  • We dive into examples of Taylor’s gratitude in her life and songwriting

  • A Review: Reflecting on your Happiness Era journey

Each week you’ll have Swiftie homework:

  1. Weekly Journal Prompts – Reflect on the concepts in your own life.

  2. Mixtape Challenge – Choose 4-6 Taylor Swift songs each week that represent the theme for you.

  3. Practice in the Wild – Notice these concepts in your everyday life (When was the last time you felt true joy?).
